About

“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” ~~ Maya Angelou I believe in empowering people to grow and change, to help them climb out of mental anguish into a life of hope and meaning. I am passionate about my work, but conscientious, as well. I know how hard it is to engage in therapy, how much courage it takes, and that people do so out of a strong need to end their suffering pain. My style is to make the process as comfortable as possible, often using humor to ease the tension. I listen with compassion and understanding, without judgement. Fascinated with our uniqueness as human beings, our abilities, and vulnerabilities, I work to bring out the resilience we are all capable of, knowing our capacity for renewal. I am a licensed psychologist with a PhD in Counseling Psychology and over 12 years of postdoctoral experience. Starting out as a hospital social worker, I accumulated over 30 years of education and experience in mental health. I completed a Master’s degree in Social Work and a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My professional experience includes work in both inpatient and outpatient mental health facilities. I have worked with people with severe trauma, chronic mental disorders, acute crises, and prolonged mental illnesses. I work with clients with PTSD, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and personality disorders. For the past 2 years I have been providing virtual psychotherapy via telehealth. Initially, I spend as much time as needed listening to my clients tell me their immediate concerns, what led up to them asking for help, and what bothers them the most. In my experience, this is a difficult process for many, but provides a great sense of relief. Then we can move forward to figure out how you can help yourself feel better.
