Dr. Celina Pina Shemo PSY.D. is a seasoned clinician, of 30 years, and has dedicated her life’s work to helping those who have experienced trauma. She has been in private practice for 25 years serving the minority and disadvantaged populations of Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape and the Islands. As well as, providing services for the religiouis communities in New York. For many years, she provided forensic evaluations on sexually abused children. In 1988, She began her journey as a sexual abuse evaluator and later grew focusing exclusively on trauma. She eventually was recognized as a child sexual abuse expert witness in the Massachusetts court system.
In 1992, Dr. Celina, created a platform for helping those who live in pain. She is the founder and CEO of VGI, Mental Health, which is a 501 C 3, organization. The mission is to provide a mental health therapeutic milieu to the diverse and multicultural population of children and families in Southeastern Massachusetts, Cape and Islands. Dr. Pina is also licensed to provide these same services in New York State. Dr. Celina is recognized for her distinguished clinical abilities in providing diagnostic assessments in trauma related issues and for her clinical insight, diagnostic proficiencies and “out of the box” treatment modalities. Over the years, she has serviced families who now continue to refer their children and grandchildren. Her practice has grown to include treatment for children (starting at 2 years of age) to all ages with a large population of seniors who are survivors of trauma. Her clinical approach, is to affect healing from the inside using various clinical techniques incorporating the creative, expressive and preforming arts.
Dr. Celina is an Internationally recognized best-selling author of the book, “Five Keys to Emotional Oneness; The Emotional Detox System”. The book was written for people who have experienced emotional tragedies, as a vehicle to tell their story and provide cognitive and practical tools for healing trauma. Dr. Celina has become known internationally as the "Ambassador of Emotional Health." Most recently, Dr. Celina has created a trauma related train the training system for training those interested in providing and creating clinical care across the globe.
Dr. Celina speaks, Cape Verdean Kriol (a Portuguese/African dialect); she sits on several boards, and, in 2013, published, “One Cut Too Deep,” stories written by high school teens on self-mutilation. She is currently writing a book on the growth of defiant behaviors as it relates to trauma, “Strands of Silk.” Dr. Celina has hosted several radio and television talk shows globally and continues to deliver workshops, coaching, trainings and public speaking engagements to varying audiences and corporate individuals.
