About

Hi! I am Dr. Caitilin Barrett. I am a licensed clinical psychologist who has been practicing for ten years with the last two and half of those years being independently licensed. Through my training as a clinical psychologist, I blend research and evidence-based findings into my clinical practice so that clients have the best of both cutting-edge science and practical application. Over the last ten years, I have worked in a variety of settings including a university-based community clinic, a community mental health center, telehealth programs, a private practice, and a hospital. I've worked with a wide-range of people on a broad spectrum of issues ranging from adjustment to life changes/situational stress, all the way up to complex, life threatening chronic issues.

Over the years I have worked to create a balance between teaching people skills they can use for the rest of their lives and collaboratively living in the moment with clients as we explore their lived experience. It is very important to me that people feel heard and respected in addition to having their unique experience honored. Different things work for different people so it is important to establish a partnership with open communication. I can adjust to meet people’s needs and welcome feedback from clients. This is your journey and I am here to support you while hopefully making the journey a little less bumpy. My therapy style is versatile based on what people need. In general, I like to do skills-based therapy because it allows me to give my clients something that they can use long after they have left treatment. Within a skills-based approach, I can blend a more client-centered, almost talk therapy style with skills or I can do a strict skills-based treatment. The pacing is also up to the client. You decide how slow or fast you want to work and this can always be adjusted to meet your needs as they evolve.

My favorite types of therapy are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I can provide a wide range of additional therapies including CBT for various issues (panic, anxiety, phobia, depression, etc.), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) & Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD, and Logotherapy among others. I tend to use an eclectic approach in which I draw from a few different therapeutic techniques to meet the needs of my clients. This versatility allows me to customize treatments to meet my clients needs.

Change is always challenging and often uncomfortable even when it is for the best. I applaud you for taking steps to make changes and build a life that it worth living. Thank you for considering me to walk this journey with you.

I hope to work with you soon!
