About

Hi there, I'm Barbara! Hello, my name is Dr. Barbara Palomino de Velasco, or if you wish, you may call me "Dr. P." I have been working with adults and families for over 20 years and have had the privilege of assisting them in areas of communication, problem-solving, depression management, anxiety reduction, and the development of adaptive coping skills. Additionally, I train nationwide on law enforcement suicide prevention, critical incidents, and building more resilient first responder families. My approach My therapeutic approach to providing therapy is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational, Solution Focused, and if you would like Faith-Based Approaches. My focus After years of working with forensic and substance abuse patients, I am able to respect all individuals regardless of any mistakes they may have made in life. However, I enjoy working with all patient populations and helping. I look forward to learning about your goals and developing a working relationship with you! I am a huge proponent that Mental Fitness is so important for everyone, and I am eager to help you create a plan that will help you pursue your goals. My communication style The environment I prefer to foster with my patients is one in which we are a team working together towards your goals. While I am here to assist you, I am here to respect your goals and choices. My journey to therapy My background was in forensics, working mostly with offenders and substance abuse patients. I shifted to first responders, which include (law enforcement, fire, paramedics, EMS, corrections, communications, and emergency room nurses). I still work with first responders, and many of them are also active or retired military. I am also a professor and love teaching students in the field of psychology, as we have a great need to help our communities.
