About

Warm Welcome,

I'm Dr. Dickinson, and I am a licensed professional counselor with a mental health service provider designation in Tennessee and a doctoral graduate from Regent University (PhD in Counselor Education & Supervision). I graduated with my master's in counseling in 2007. I have been working in the field since then.

I started out in a church counseling center and taught some university courses. I also became versed in 12 step models to recovery and healing early on in my professional journey. While earning my doctorate, I gained additional clinical experience by working in a treatment facility for eating disorders and drug and alcohol abuse and dependency.

After graduating with my doctoral degree and earning my license, I taught graduate courses and supervised counselor interns for a few years. Feeling more at home in the clinical setting, I shifted back to working with substance use disorders in the residential rehab setting. During this experience, I saw a need to get more training in the area of trauma. I received training in attachment-focused EMDR and shifted into a private practice setting where I specialized in working with disordered eating, substance abuse, and trauma.

Early in 2020, I shifted to doing clinical work online in response to the pandemic. I soon saw the benefits and decided to continue working in a virtual setting. Currently I frequently work with individuals on issues of self-esteem, worth and value, life adjustments, depression, and anxiety. When I work with those struggling with addiction, I utilize the 12-step approach to healing, and ask that clients maintain a program of recovery alongside their therapy.

I believe therapy works best if it is collaborative. In the first visit, I will share my approach and philosophy, hear your story, and then make recommendations for your care. I typically assign therapeutic homework and ask clients to begin practicing healthy coping strategies. It is important to lay the groundwork for therapy by establishing healthy habits early in the process. Therapy takes motivation and hard work. But it is worth it.

Thanks for checking out my profile. I hope to connect with you soon.
