About
Hello,
My name is Doug Shotsky, I am 40 years old and live in rural Wisconsin. I am currently a full-time pastor, but have had many years of experience as a professional counselor. I have been married for 14 years, have 3 children (ages 11, 9, and 7), 2 dogs, and 2 cats. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, being outdoors, doing woodworking projects, and traveling around to see the beauty of creation.
I consider myself to be a very relational counselor. I believe that a trusting client-therapist relationship is the key foundation to being able to do good therapeutic work, and providing a positive client experience and good outcomes. I began by working in a community mental health setting as a crisis counselor that assessed clients in the emergency room and in the jail. During this time I also saw clients that suffered from many different mental and emotional disorders. Eventually I left that position and took a role as a director of a men's residential drug and alcohol treatment facility. Having had struggles with addiction myself in my late teens and early 20's I had a strong desire to work with individuals who were trapped in addiction. This was a very hard, but rewarding experience. I moved on in 2017 to provide counseling in a high school for students and family's within a school system.
In 2018 I decided to pursue a full time position as a pastor, but have maintained my professional counseling credentials and want to utilize my gifts to continue helping others in a time of need. I have a Bachelor's degree in leadership and ministry from Ohio Christian University, and Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University. I utilize several different approaches in therapy based on the needs of my clients, but most often work from a Cognitive Behavioral approach, Systems therapy, or Solutions-focused therapy. I am continually growing and learning more about life and how to help others.
