Welcome! My name is Dorcas VanGilst and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Arkansas. I have worked with people from all walks of life and from many different cultures. My desire is to make this a safe place for you to feel heard and helped. I have fourteen years of experience working with trauma, substance abuse, domestic violence, mood disorders, relationship issues and a plethora of other problematic challenges. I would describe my approach to therapy as primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential Therapy and Solution Focused Therapy. That being said, every client is unique and it's important to me to find what works best for you.
Sometimes people seek out counseling not because of a disorder or specific issue but because they need a safe place to process through the general challenges of life. Whatever has made you reach out I want you to know that I view the counseling relationship as a partnership, one that is based on mutual acceptance, respect, honesty and a desire to really do the work together.
