Hello!
My name is Dixie Placek. I graduated from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska and then taught in the elementary grades for 18 years. While teaching I enrolled in graduate school at the University of Nebraska and received a degree in Educational Psychology in 1985. After graduation, I worked in a community mental health clinic for three years and then moved on to open a private practice clinic in 1991.
I had the opportunity to work with people of all ages from preschool age to age 90 in the community mental health setting and private practice. I definitely enjoyed the variety and learned so much from my clients about a wide range of issues. I adapt my counseling methods to meet the learning styles and needs of my clients but use primarily cognitive behavioral, solution focused, narrative therapy and family systems approaches.
I have worked with many trauma issues, family relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief and loss and self esteem issues. I believe in building on each person's strengths and resiliency. I definitely meet my clients where they are at in their lives and encourage them to take the lead in determining what they want to change in their lives and in making choices as to how best to accomplish their goals.
My personal interests are my family, my home, reading, photography, and my pet pugs. I enjoy researching family genealogy and understanding the history of the times that influenced my ancestors' lives and how it effects us today.
