About
I am licensed in Oklahoma as a professional counselor. I have been in the behavioral health field since the early 2000’s. I graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University with a Masters in Counseling Psychology. I have worked in the school system, long-term addiction rehab, domestic violence, Native American population, private practice, as well as in a comprehensive co-occurring acute hospital with inpatient and outpatient services.
My orientations I prefer is CBT and person-centered, as I strongly believe that a therapeutic relationship is paramount for client growth. I believe that therapy should be an authentic experience, and the client’s need to be validated, heard and understood is primary. I see my role as both a leader and a follower in treatment to help promote client change. I practice a balance of basic empathy and unconditional positive regard, While I like to operate from an insight-oriented therapeutic stance this does require clients to have a level of insight into their concerns. It can be frustrating for clients who don’t know what is appropriate to discuss in sessions. I work with clients to encourage outside-in changes that can be beneficial to promote insight and effect a lasting change for each client.
Each individual is not an illness or label, they are a person with several contributing factors towards their distress or for seeking help. For this reason, I try my best, as a psychotherapist use theory and techniques from CBT/REBT, Crisis Intervention, Mindfulness, Motivational Interview, Psychoeducation, and Solution-Focused Therapy among other modalities.
I have experience working with individuals and families – adolescents and adults suffering from depression/mood disorders, anxiety, trauma/abuse, addiction and family conflict, relationship issues, self-harming, suicidal ideations. Additionally, I do work with development of coping skills and everyday issues.
My passion is to help clients find their authentic self and to improve all levels of their function in life. In individual counseling, whether unhappiness stems from mental health issues, trauma or life circumstances.
The goal of therapy will be to diminish existing problems by identifying negative and problematic thought processes and restructuring them into more positive thought patterns. The way that we think and feel about ourselves the environment and others around us greatly affects our joys, our sorrows, moods, behaviors and fears.
I’m passionate about helping the client. I will provide what fits your needs and meet you where you are to gain a better perspective of your functional level.
