Derrick Hinds is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling and a specialization in Clinical Behavioral Health. He is also a Licensed Addictions Counselor and has been working in behavioral health in Colorado for 16 years. He received his counseling degree from Denver Seminary and holds a deep appreciation for the client's experience, spirituality, as well as their basic need for love, acceptance, security, creativity, identity and community. Derrick believes in the principal that every person has value, is precious and unique, and that all have something good to offer themselves as well as others. He has worked with many people presenting with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, substance abuse, relationship issues, parenting struggles, grief and loss, career challenges, criminal justice involvement, and self-confidence issues. He specializes in working with men and women who desire a positive change in their life but have encountered internal or external barriers that interfere with their ability to enjoy stable relationships, meet personal responsibilities, or find balance and wellness. Derrick supports his clients by creating a safe place where they can share their thoughts and feelings, be authentic, gain insight, and receive guidance so they can take informed steps in pursuing their goals. His counseling style is strengths-based, utilizing various therapeutic approaches from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectal-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Wellness Practices. Derrick has a counseling philosophy based on the acknowledgment of the client’s background and personal beliefs. His expertise allows clients to develop their own perspective, challenge thinking errors and emotional blocks that may be present, so they can take the steps they need in order to accomplish their goals.
