About

In a variety of settings as a licensed professional counselor over the last 17 years, there have been many essential skills that I’ve sharpened with a wide range of people. I’ve seen firsthand the impact of more severe psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, substance abuse, or crisis-based situations. I have a good understanding of the complications facing the developmentally disabled in our community. I also have a lot of knowledge and experience with people in medically complex situations or with physical disabilities. Mood disorders, depression, grief, and anxiety create considerable setbacks, and many people have benefited from obtaining treatment for these common mental health problems within my career so far. Other important criteria that people seek in a counselor include someone who is knowledgeable in acceptance. While everybody may vary in their definition of what this means, I believe that I’m not the expert on who you are and what your experiences have been. I might be an expert in behavioral health treatment, but I invite and enjoy learning from my client about what their lifetime has been like and how it impacts their well-being. My number one role is to accept you for who you are and to help you achieve the success you deserve in counseling. I remain open to learning from people! It is at the core of what I do in my role. When it comes to feeling accepted and respected, experience can be essential. I’ve worked successfully with a variety of cultures, such as African American, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Asian, mixed, or Caucasian populations. I have helped people of varying sexual preferences, such as straight, heterosexual, gay, or lesbian populations. I have experience with men and women of all ages, as well as adolescents. Areas of interest are women’s issues or childhood traumatic experiences. I’ve also been trained in marriage and family-related issues and have worked successfully with couples and with parent/child relationships.
