About
Hello, my name is Deirdre and I have always been passionate about helping others, which has been demonstrated through my various experiences in the helping field, beginning as a 911-dispatcher for a nationally well-known police department. It was there that I became interested in wanting to understand those on the opposite side of the law, as my interest became piqued as to why people commit atrocities against others. While working as a dispatcher, I began studying Psychology, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in the field of Psychology from California State University Northridge - CSUN. Then ultimately earned a Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Nevada Las Vegas - UNLV.
My work is ethically and professionally driven with a client-centered approach to get those who are suffering with mental health conditions actively involved in the positive change they would like to have for their life, blended with a caring level of professional guidance. I enjoy working with teenagers who may be at risk of delinquency; along with those well into adulthood suffering with psychosis, trauma, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, co-dependency, among other mental health conditions that may be troubling or impacting one's ability to function in daily life.
My therapeutic interventions utilized mostly are CBT, DBT (mindfulness, effective communication, emotional intelligence, interpersonal effectiveness), Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused, Problem-Solving; all intermixed with Psychoeducation for a deeper understanding about self, symptoms, and behaviors attached to symptoms. My ultimate goal is to improve society as a whole by helping people reach their own self-actualization to enjoy a life of fulfillment.
