About

Hello, I'm Dedra Chavis and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
I hold a Master of Arts degree in Counseling with an emphasis on Mental Health. My work experience includes a broad range of issues, including anxiety, depression, stress management, family dynamics, self-esteem, health, and lifestyle. I also have a specialty in working with complex trauma. I am skilled in individual, family and group therapy, utilizing evidence and strength based treatment models including Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT), Trauma Informed Care and Motivational Interviewing. A number of different therapeutic styles and modalities may be explored depending on appropriateness and the client’s situation. I am well versed in DSM-V diagnosis, treatment for co-occurring disorders, treatment planning, assessment, clinical documentation, and psychoeducation.

I strive to establish strong therapeutic communications and relationships that encourage clients willingness to discuss issues of concern and expand healthy awareness. My approach to therapy is holistic and client-centered. I understand problems or challenges that individuals experience, in the context of larger relational systems: family, community, environmental, and cultural. I value and welcome feedback regarding client’s therapy experiences, what works best and does not work as well. My role is to assist you in reaching your goals by providing non- judgmental support and helping to facilitate your journey.

If this is your first experience with therapy, you might feel a bit nervous or apprehensive. That’s normal! Therapy is a process that allows you the freedom and privacy to discuss issues that are often painful or difficult to discuss with family and/or friends. I believe that in the process of our work together, you can begin to feel more at home within yourself and within your relationships.
