About
Thank you for allowing me to introduce myself. My name is Debbie and I love what I do. I have a long-standing passion for helping others to navigate life’s struggles and make changes toward relational and emotional wholeness. I have more than 20 years of professional experience working with individuals, couples, and families that can make a difference for you as you begin this journey. During my career I have assisted clients in finding resolution with a variety of issues including anxiety and depression, loss and grief, marital and relational problems, family conflict and parenting, infertility, trauma and abuse, life changes, and end of life, to name a few.
My life experiences as a spouse, mother, grandmother, daughter, friend, and mentor naturally inform my approach to therapy. These experiences include being a parent of an adopted child, losing an adult child and a parent, growing up as a child of a parent in the military, and many other life changes along the way. I believe I approach counseling with authenticity and warmth, working to have the best understanding of you and your perspective of the problem at hand.
My therapeutic framework is somewhat eclectic including Cognitive-Behavioral, Solution-Focused, and a Client-Centered approach. I am also trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). My aim, if you choose to work with me is to partner with you to find the solutions that work best for you.
I received my B.A. in Psychology from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, and my Master of Social Work (MSW) from George Williams College at Aurora University in Aurora, Illinois in 1997. I am currently licensed in Missouri as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). During my career I have worked as a psychotherapist, first in a non-profit counseling agency for a brief period, and then in a private practice setting. I have also supervised other therapists in training, and I have served as Director of a Christian counseling agency, supervising multiple licensed therapists, and developing and overseeing various support groups.
I look forward to meeting you and beginning this journey together.
