About

Too often in early life, you experience events that silence you. This can leave you feeling lost, stuck, ashamed, and lonely - many times looking to others to dictate your career, personality, and even partners! Inspired by my own journey, I am passionate about providing therapy to help others explore their own paths and work toward a healing understanding of themselves.

These life passages can unearth deeply rooted beliefs about ourselves and the world.

I am passionate about helping you take a look at those roots to integrate a new, empowering self-narrative.

If any of the above sounds familiar, chances are we’d be good fit. I believe in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship - I know it helped me find healing in my journey, and I’d love to be a part of helping you find your own!

Though I am experienced with most general mental health struggles (depression, anxiety, ADHD, etc.), some of my specialties include those grappling with -

⁃ Challenging life transitions - infidelity, job termination, divorce, death of a loved one, injury, or even “positive” transitions like marriage, graduation, job promotion, and retirement.

⁃ Perfectionistic tendencies and cycles of shame.

⁃ Anchoring to a sense of self and finding relief from feeling disorganized, distracted, and restless.

About D. Joel Marquart

From the south-central region of the “Mitten State” (Michigan), Joel obtained his MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (2016) from Wheaton College. While interning at the Moody College counseling center in Chicago, Joel provided therapy to college students experiencing social anxiety, depression, ADHD, low self-esteem, complex life transitions, perfectionism and identity development struggles. Following graduate school, Joel worked at a private practice in Glen Ellyn, IL until joining forces with his wife Stephanie Marquart to create Living Roots Counseling.

If you were to catch Joel outside the office, you may find him walking his puppy, running a trail, or joining his wife Stephanie in seeking new coffee shops, unique cuisine, and places to catch a sunset.
