About
Hello all. Let me introduce myself from a song while in High School Chorus. "One By One."
Years have come and gone, and I cannot forget how the words to that song have a lasting impression on me… “The world and pain is more than I can deal with…people one by one is a different thing…one by one…people come…give your name, lose your pain…”
From the early Seventies to the present, I have an ongoing resolve to do my part with what I have been given and trained to be.
My name is David, and I come from multiple generations starting from the coast of what is now the Province of Quebec to my birth in the Elm Home, that predated Cobleskill Hospital in Rural Schoharie County. The saying, you can take the boy out of the country but not the country out of the boy resonates within me. Over the years, my values and beliefs broadened as I came to learn about a society whose breadth and girth is all of humanity.
Graduating with a Regents Diploma and the first to break the educational boundaries into higher education and graduating with a Master of Social Work, with a clinical emphasis from the State University of Albany in 1995.
I have always loved what I do and do what I love that primarily includes so many people that I have served throughout my professional career.
I have come to develop an insight and desire to work with the misunderstood and marginalized in society. Those with little to no voice despite their social or economic status. Mother Theresa inspired me when she chose those who were alone or isolated in one manner or another.
My formal training has targeted individuals and families who live with anxiety, depression, situations or circumstances that capitalized on those conditions. My experience includes those who are or consider themselves as “different,” possibly living with Attention Deficit and hyperactivity; those who grew up with various traumatic experiences, and the list goes on. Caregivers also require time and attention for the work that goes on behind closed doors.
Grief and loss, death and dying are also familiar to me because there isn’t any mortal that can escape death. Other life endings or transitions such as divorce family disruptions and the like are also within my focus, skills, and expertise. Those living with a chronic illness, whether that includes coping with pain, Multiple Sclerosis, or debilitating illnesses that compromise quality of life also fall within the spectrum of my past experiences.
I have two adult sons who are making their mark on society as well as my wife, Marybeth who works in the Mental Health field, like myself as a therapist.
Recently, in 2021 I left formalized employment and contract with Find A Therapist. I have committed myself to volunteer with the American Red Cross to give back to humanity.
I invite those who are reading this small thumbprint of my biography to subscribe with Find A Therapist and join me as we work together, finding opportunities and new chapters in your life. The saying that one can feed another all their life or one can teach another to fish on their own…I prefer assisting others in learning to fish.
