Hello! I’m Danielle Johnston, a Nationally Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor with 23 years experience. I’m dually licensed in SC, as a Licensed Professional Counselor & Licensed Addiction Counselor (LPC & LAC, NCC & CCMHC.) I also hold certifications as a Certified Clinical Trauma Therapist and as a Certified Dialectical Behavioral Therapist (CCTP and C-DBT).
My areas of specialty include identity, self-esteem, self-worth, depression, anxiety, alcohol & cannabis abuse, chronic stress, nervous system dysregulation, coping with life changes, trauma, life purpose, body image, self-medicating, intimacy issues, communication problems, attachment issues, emotional regulation, relationship harmony.
My therapy style is warm, encouraging, enthusiastic, interactive. I believe a depressed person is a discouraged person. It’s easy to fall into those thoughts & patterns. I am your coach to teach you how to convince yourself to change what you do have control over, to improve your sense of self & quality of life. Anxiety is similar, self-control is gained as you learn to identify & modify your physiological reactions, & to restructure your cognitive patterns. Let me teach you how to calm, co-regulate, and choose to be reasonable & logic-driven rather than reactive, anxious or emotion-driven.
My clinical approach combines Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic, Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Based, Adlerian, Somatic, Nervous System Regulation, Gottman, DBT, Existential , Strength-Based, & Solution-Focused Therapy. (Taught best in live sessions.)
I’ll tailor our dialog and treatment objectives to meet your unique, specific needs. You set your goals. My task for every session is to help you feel encouraged, heard, validated, & have small tasks to incorporate & watch yourself succeed in until we meet again.
