About

My name is Dan Mowry. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in Wisconsin with 8 years experience as a counselor; I am delighted that you are considering meeting with me for counseling.
My approach to counseling is rather simple. I see counseling as a helping relationship that strives to enable individuals to gain insights into themselves and what they do so that they can live happier, fuller, and more satisfying lives. A fitting metaphor of my approach to counseling is a person looking in a mirror. Typically, before going out for the day, people look in a mirror to see how they look to the rest of the world since they cannot see much of themselves; they need another person or a reflection to show or tell how they look. In the same way, I hope that like a mirror, I can objectively recognize things about you and your life and give you insights that are difficult to see yourself that will help you make decisions about your life now and in the future. I plan to do a lot of reflecting as well as paraphrasing to help me understand you and hopefully give you a better understanding of yourself.
I want you to know that I am not perfect and do not have all the answers but I will strive to be objective, non-judgmental, compassionate, encouraging and present with you in our time together. My clinical training emphasized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and what that mostly means for us in our time together is that our thoughts, feelings, and actions all influence each other, and because of that, changing our thoughts will likely have an effect on our feelings and actions as well. The part that I like about Cognitive Behavior Therapy is that it is a very up-front approach and there are not any hidden agendas. As we become aware of our thought processes and realize that we all have unhelpful thoughts that can be replaced with more helpful thoughts, we can feel better and perform better; that is what I aim to help you do. I hope to be solution-focused and help you get going on your way to the life you envision as soon as possible.
Again, thank you so much for considering joining me. I am excited to work with you and see you live your best life!
