About

Hello, my name is Dan O’Neill. I am a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner (LMHP) in the state of Nebraska. I have earned a B.A. in Psychology, a M.S. in Mental Health Counseling. My career history began in medical supply sales, then into orthopedic sales. A series of life events and opportunities allowed me to return to school at a later age than most to obtain my credentials. As I look back I can see that my life has always been grounded in professions focused on helping others. Whether that be in providing for their physical needs, or now, helping someone find solutions with their emotional or psychological needs. In my counseling career I have worked in residential and outpatient settings. This has allowed me to work with a wide range of populations, from troubled adolescents to those in the criminal justice system. I recently worked for nine years in the Drug Court. I have had the phenomenal opportunity to work with individuals from all walks of life. As one might imagine, working in the criminal justice system exposes you to people with horrendous backgrounds and traumatic experiences, co-morbid mental health issues, and deep-seated addiction issues. It was a challenging yet very rewarding experience.
My approach to counseling is to allow you to determine your needs. You know you better than anyone else, the best way to utilize that knowledge is to meet you where you are and not force you into someone else’s idea of the best you. That is not to say I will not challenge your thoughts, actions, decisions-but it will be done in a very considerate and thoughtful manner. I would describe my approach as warm and empathetic, with a touch of humor when appropriate. We will work collaboratively to discover strategies and solutions that work best for you. I know in my own life that tragedy, trauma, family and life issues can be debilitating at times. Having someone you feel will understand, may have had similar experiences, can be truly trusted, and has your best interest in mind can be life changing. I would like to help you navigate whatever you are dealing with.
I look forward to working with you.
