Welcome! My name is Damaris Alfonso and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of New Jersey. I earned my Master's degree in Social Work from Rutgers University (2016) and have since worked in a variety of settings such as private practice, homes, and schools, providing individual therapy. Whether this is your first time seeking therapy, or you have more experience, I would love to meet you where you are at and help you become a better version of yourself.
My skill set includes working with individuals who have experienced trauma and helping them achieve peace with the events that have occured in their lives, as well as build the courage to overcome fears and get the most out of their lives. I have also been successful in helping individuals that struggle with low self-esteem become more confident, motivated, and connected to themselves. I use Cognitive Behavorial Therapy, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help individuals reduce and cope with anxiety. Societal pressures can be overwhelming and have a big influence on how we view ourselves. Negative thinking patterns can lead to feelings of anxiety, low self-esteem, anger and depression. If you relate to this, I can guide you toward gaining control of your thoughts and shaping a more positive perspective.
My therapeutic style involves reflection, setting goals, and guiding you in following a plan to successfully achieve them. I believe the most important component of therapy is for a client to feel comfortable enough to say anything to their therapist without feeling judged, or misunderstood.
