About
Hello and Welcome! My name is Damaris, I was born and raised in the Rio Grande Valley and graduated from The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in 2018 with a Masters in Education with a specialization in Counseling and Guidance. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) who has experience with substance use, grief and loss, trauma, anxiety, depression, relationship concerns, self-esteem, and other life experiences.
I believe that "The good life is a process not a state of being" as Carl Rogers once said. I have previous experience working with young adults with trauma, loss, and adjustment disorders at a shelter. I have also worked with adults that struggle with substance abuse and mood disorders at the residential level. I have mostly been utilizing skills from treatment modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, positive psychology, and motivational interviewing.
I can empathize with a wide variety of people and understands their choices and feelings. I am emotionally attuned to individuals' needs and help them identify and articulate their feelings. Moreover, I have a sophisticated set of interpersonal skills and am flexible in adapting to my clients' characteristics. I am astute at tailoring warmth, acceptance and communication with a willingness to establish an alliance with my clients. I provide the tools to inspire hope and optimism for the exploration of insight and self-mastery for my clients' continued success.
