About

Hello,

I am Cortney Ball, a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Professional Counselor practicing in the downriver area in Detroit, MI with Foresight. I obtained my Master of Arts in Counseling, with a specialization in addictions, from the University of Detroit Mercy. I have 5 years of experience working in a variety of mental health settings such as, community mental health, residential, inpatient, and outpatient counseling. I have experience working with all ages. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults. I enjoy being a safe place for individuals to unpack and lessen the load of worrying. I enjoy teaching individuals evidenced based coping mechanisms to improve self-awareness and coping abilities.

In my opinion, the ultimate goal of therapy is to improve self-awareness. Improving self-awareness assists individuals to make better decisions to support personal goals created throughout therapy. Better decisions lead to healthier behaviors. There is no “one size fits all” when it comes to therapy, therefore, I believe in meeting the individual where they are. Therapy is a collaboration. It is important for the individual to be comfortable with the therapeutic process in order to make change. I take a person- centered cognitive behavior-based approach when working with individuals. I utilize a combination of person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavior therapy, emotion focused therapy, and strength based, and mindfulness cognitive behavior therapy. My specialty areas include; addictions, depression, anxiety, trauma, self-esteem issues, body positivity, life transition, ADHD, and communication issues. Lastly, Emotions are like waves. Instead of fighting or being consumed by waves, we can learn how to navigate the waves. I look forward to assisting you in becoming a surfer! “Let’s learn how to ride the waves”
