About
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker licensed in Texas with 19 years of experience working as a psychotherapist. I have worked extensively with clients struggling with grief and loss, depression, anxiety, addictive behaviors, and work or relationship issues. My counseling style is relaxed, accepting, and interactive. I have been a student of World Culture and Religions for most of my life and am very familiar with, respectful toward, and accepting of minority cultures and spiritual paths. I believe in treating everyone from any culture, lifestyle, or orientation with the respect, sensitivity, and compassion all people deserve.
My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, and motivational interviewing counseling skills, but I always start by trying to learn your worldviews, so I can address your needs in ways that are meaningful to you. I am a very active counselor that seeks to alleviate suffering quickly by finding out what you most want to change and putting tools in place to make some progress there right away, while I work to learn your other needs and what approaches will be most effective for you as a more long term solution. I will tailor our time together and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
I routinely offer self help tools, resources, and even self help reading, so that you can significantly improve your feeling of well being between sessions and not be limited only to what happens with me. I do not push people to use these skills or tools beyond what they are willing to, but I always hope we can find new ways for you to heal yourself between visits with me.
I am here to support and empower you in whatever way will help you find peace and learn to be comfortable in your own skin. Change is always hard, and some changes are harder than others, but changing things within ourselves is always much easier than changing others, even if we are simply changing how we deal with their behaviors which are outside of our control. My actual goal is to help you feel better about yourself, your relationships, and to learn and build skills to more effectively avoid unnecessary conflicts while working on improving those that cannot be avoided.
I look forward to working with you!
