About
I am so pleased that you are here, taking this first step, looking for a therapist, it’s one of the bravest things you can do for yourself, and for the people who care about you. This is an important relationship. And there must be a “goodness-of-fit” between client and therapist. I hope we will forge that relationship together.
As a therapist, my goal is to ask my client the questions that will help them to find their answers. I believe that no one knows you better than you know yourself. It’s just that oftentimes, there is too much clutter in our heads, and that clutter interferes with our ability to see clearly.
Since I have been practicing for over 30 years, I have worked in a variety of settings, with a variety of people, who have all contributed to a wide array of experiences. My orientation is as eclectic and diverse as my clients and their issues. I believe that therapy is most effective when together, client and therapist develop clear priorities regarding the focus of therapy.
I spent many years working with children (and their siblings and parents) affected with a variety of challenges, most especially, autism. I have also worked with single parents, helping them work through emotional and practical obstacles to clear the way for effective parenting and a healthy parent-child relationship.
Several years ago, my mother, who was in the early stages of dementia moved in. Once I became her primary caregiver, I realized how overwhelming and heartbreaking the role of caregiver can be. But I also learned that with needed support, it can also be rewarding, awe-inspiring, and can create opportunities to mend fractured relationships. I started a support group for caregivers to provide them with someone to talk to who isn’t going to judge them, and someone to strategize with how to best care for their loved one. This brought me an entirely new population of older adults looking for that support.
The variety of people I have been privileged to serve, along with the variety of issues those people have presented to me, have helped me grow into a versatile and effective therapist. I am grateful to all my clients; past, present, and those I have yet to meet. It has been my pleasure to work with each one of you.
To those of you who are here, looking for that goodness-of-fit with a therapist to help you navigate this difficult time, I look forward to working with you.
