About

My name is Christy Tunnell, and I am a licensed Marriage and Family therapist. My approach to therapy is one of open and honest communication between myself and my clients. I like to be direct but at the same time gentle. I also utilize humor in my approach when it is needed. My focus has always been helping whomever I am working with become the best versions of themselves. My approach I utilize many different styles and modalities of therapeutic interventions. I believe that based upon each client, is how I approach therapy. I do not think that all client's would benefit from only utilizing one or two types of modalities of therapy. I am eclectic in my approach and will pull interventions that will best suit each individual client and their needs. My focus I typically work with individuals, couples and families of all ages. I usually work with trauma client's which encompass many different conditions. My communication style I utilize humor and tend to meet each client where they are in terms of communicating with them. I can usually gauge rather quickly what kind of approach each client will need, whether that be more direct and straight forward or a more gentler approach if needed. My journey to mental healthcare Actually, when I started my undergrad degree, I had no idea what I really wanted to be and changed my major many different times while getting my associates degree. It was not until I took an intro to psychology course that I fell in love with psychology and the different areas of focus within psychology itself. Once I graduated with my Bachelors degree I took some time off and started working. I quickly figured out that I needed way more than a Bachelors degree to really make a difference in this field. I went back to school in 2015 to obtain my masters degree in marriage and family therapy and dove right into obtaining my license after graduating in 2018 with my masters degree. I have a calling to do this and know that God has sent me on this path.
