About
Greetings!
I am a counselor that has worked with many diverse populations, from children with substance use issues to adults struggling with the loss of their child. Throughout my experiences as a counselor the common theme is that I enjoy helping people to reach their potential, overcome obstacles and identify new strengths that they can use creatively to address whatever issues that they may be faced with.
My past experience includes teaching classes both undergrad & grad at multiple universities, being a clinical supervisor for interns, a program manager of school-based programs and the director of outpatient programs. With that in mind, I have an understanding of how mental health challenges can impact multiple domains and the benefits of identifying systemic supports. This shows as I view therapy as an active process. Yes, the individual receiving the services is an expert on themselves and their world. However, I can provide insights & other information that may help to broaden the perspective a bit. And I encourage participants to build skills to actively use before, during and after triggers. Therapy is a dynamic process and as our relationship evolves, so does expectation, skill level, competencies and confidence. It is a journey that excites me to work through.
My training history involves being a Certified Skilled Cognitive Therapist and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy training, however I also utilize some Gestalt principles, Solution-Focused interventions, mindfulness and Psychodynamic approaches. My expertise lies with trauma (severe, chronic, and underrepresented), stress & anxiety, depressive disorders, addiction, self-esteem, anger management, and career development.
A large portion of my experience was received working on the severe end of the spectrum with individuals from the inner city, and we were able to have successful outcomes. As long as we remain hopeful and communicate, I am confident that you can experience the same.
