About

Helping individuals, young and old, to find balance, peace, and even joy in this world is my calling. Helping hurting people find healing so that they can go on to pursue all that life has for them, is what my job as a counselor is all about. I believe every person has within themselves the potential for transformation, but often, there must be a helpful other to walk alongside, encourage, and facilitate. As a therapist, it is an honor to be that trusted other. My approach is holistic, taking into consideration body, mind, soul (emotions), and spirit. It is person-centered, emphasizing core therapeutic conditions of congruence, unconditional positive regard, and empathetic understanding. Only in such an environment can a client let down defenses to connect with their own healing journey. My approach is trauma-focused, seeing the client through a lens that detects past hurts, abuses and psychological damage primarily caused by outside influences. The development of resilience (the ability to bounce back) is a primary focus of therapy. I use many evidenced-based therapies, including cognitive-behavioral, dialectical/mindfulness therapies, experiential methods, eye movement desensitization, and reprocessing. There is no “one size fits all.” Each client is uniquely made and needs uniquely fitted therapy. I am a Christian therapist, with a biblical worldview. I believe that science and spirituality can co-exist, and evidence-based practice can be integrated into faith-based practice. I am trained and eager to work with individuals of all faiths, believing that each client is unique, and their beliefs are as well. Professional experience Nursing was my first career, lasting 13 years. I have worked in a behavioral health unit of a local hospital, as well as all other departments in hospital and home health. As a registered nurse, I developed a therapeutic approach to caring for each patient as an individual, developing a holistic viewpoint.
