About
Christine's experiences as a Registered Nurse and Mental Health Counselor have provided her with the skills necessary to address a multitude of conditions and issues that clients may present with. She feels that the combination of these two professions allows her to draw on a variety of experiences and knowledge to best help her clients. Christine earned her Master Of Science in Community Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University, CW Post in 1995 while working as a nurse and raising her family. She always included mental health as part of her nursing goals while working and was fortunate to complete an internship at Health House in St. James, NY, providing both mental health and educational services for women. As a nurse, she had many opportunities to work with oncology patients and their families as a support person in the hospital setting, hospice care, and co-facilitating support groups. She also has been working with young adolescents and their families in the school setting for the past 17 years providing them with health care and emotional support. Christine was an involved member of the school's Instructional Support Team, working closely with the social worker and guidance counselors to better meet the needs of her students. She is currently volunteering as a counselor/ listener on an online chat service for anyone in need of support and finds that there are many young adults who reach out for assistance on this site. She finds that a combination of Cognitive Behavioral and Person Centered Therapy best fit her counseling style. Christine's primary goal in counseling is to create a safe, trusting relationship between her and her clients so that they can work together to formulate and best meet their goals for therapy.
