About
The first step towards therapy can feel very overwhelming. At the same time, the fact that you are here shows your strength. A little bit about me, I earned my Masters of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2018. I received specialized training in mental health for adolescents, adults, and the geriatric population. I have counseled individuals, couples, families, and groups. My passion is clinical work and assisting others better understand themselves, their individual challenges, and those around them in order to live a genuinely happy and successful life. However, each individual may define this for themselves. I have extensive training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy which is an evidenced based practice used primarily for the treatment of personality disorders, however it is also helpful with many other diagnoses. My counseling approach starts with the building of a strong counseling relationship with the client. I focus on the client’s strengths and then their challenges after building a solid relationship with them. I utilize several techniques in the counseling process based on the client’s presenting problem. I use solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, dialectical behavior therapy techniques, and cognitive-behavioral approaches with adolescents and adults. I fully believe that counseling is a cooperative approach between the client and the counselor. I will encourage you to set the direction of our sessions as you share your thoughts, ideas, feelings, and concerns about yourself and your personal relationships. I strive to establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship that is based on acceptance, respect, trust, and encouragement. I assure you that my services will be rendered in a professional manner consistent with accepted ethical standards set forth by the National Association of Social Work Code of Ethics. Please note that it is impossible to guarantee any specific results regarding your counseling goals. However, together we will work to achieve the best possible results. Your sessions are your time to discuss any topics which you feel appropriate.
