About

My name is Christian D. Rodriguez and I am a licensed marriage and family therapist. I like to approach therapy as a conjoint journey with the clients I work with. I typically see client who are experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, phase of life issues, and in decision making. My approach I primarily utilize CBT, DBT, and Bowen Intergenerational Family Systems Theory in my clinical work. I am a strong proponent of the concept of clients being an expert on their own life and their own history. I see myself taking on a role of an advisor and guide rather than a director or absolute authority. I believe in the resilience and strength of the mind and human spirit to help fuel treatment, which is why I subscribe to CBT and DBT and therapeutic frameworks but I also see family history and context as important factors which is why I also subscribe to the therapeutic approach created by Murray Bowen. My focus I typically work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, phase of life issues, difficulties in decision making, mood disorders, and bereavement. I also enjoy working with clients who are seeking self-actualization or perhaps want a space to process their feelings and fine tune their mental health. My communication style I prefer to allow clients to use therapy sessions as a time where they are able to speak freely and openly which means I try to focus on what they have to say. I do not monopolize therapy sessions but I helped guide sessions so that they flow well and lead to insight and change. I like to use humor in my sessions but I also believe in the strength and self-reflection found in moments of silence. I will often pause after a client has said something profound and significant by sitting in silence with the client for a few moments to really reflect on what was just said and to feel the emotions that may come up. I find that it is in these moments that clients experience profound instances of insight and meaning that could be otherwise lost.
