About
Hi there, I'm Cheryl! I am Cheryl Girder, Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist. I have been in this field for 15 years. My approach to therapy is to assist clients to see themselves and others with a better understanding which will provide a positive outlook on themselves and their surroundings. My approach My therapeutic approach is the use of Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) which assists in modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts by interrogating and uprooting negative or irrational beliefs. CBT rests on the idea that thoughts and perceptions influence behavior. My focus I am open to working with clients that have personal conflicts, relationship, or family troubles, including working with couples, or conditions such as depression, stress, or anxiety. Those mentioned are what I typically work with and the conditions I'm most comfortable with. My communication style Building a trustful rapport is very important, getting to know what a client is expecting in therapy, creating a safe space, free of judgment, and a place where my client is able to express their needs and challenges. I am a compassionate and empathetic person who meets clients where they are, providing genuine support and active listing. I firmly believe that by embarking on the healing journey together; we can discover the answers you are looking for, which might already be within you, to achieve a happy and peaceful life. My journey to therapy As far back as I can remember, living in quite a dysfunctional family, I often wondered why people do and think the way they do. I would see how irrational people can be and then also saw some very loving family members and very nice friends of my parents and wondered "Are they really as happy as they seem to be?" I was always intrigued, sometimes untrusting of people in my life and I wanted to pursue knowledge on how people act or react. Hence, my journey began and here I am.
