Our weight-centric culture chastises & shames you for your body with a mix of pity & disgust, as though your size is not only a personal moral failing, but a reliable indicator of poor health. Over time, you internalized the stigma, treating yourself with similar contempt. You’re treated like a pariah when seeking medical care, met with weight stigma far more harmful than your weight itself. You forgot how to nourish yourself – restricting food, hating yourself for a binge, "paying" via purge. What is your approach to therapy? You are meant to bloom - not shrink. I know this may be difficult to believe right now, but you are already lovely, wise, and worthy of much more in life. I’ll hold that thought for you as you relearn it, and we use it as the foundation of our work. From there, we’ll integrate cognitive behavioral strategies with EMDR to gain insights from the present to heal your old wounds once and for all. What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you? You deserve to fully enjoy, nourish, and be at peace with your body. Learn to better understand your thoughts and emotions, and stop wasting energy on what others think. Explore the root causes of the shame you've been taught, and work to move past it – your deepest self longs to be known.
