About

Hello, my name is Chantelle Spence. I obtained a Master of Science in Counseling from Nova Southeastern University. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and guides clients to increase self-awareness, gain new perspectives, decrease symptoms, and increase personal strengths to have a more meaningful life experience. I view counseling as an uplifting process. Being able to work with individuals to address matters that affect their daily living is an important factor. Building a good rapport, establishing boundaries, and adhering to the code of ethics are vital aspects of counseling. Also including the client in the treatment process and encouraging autonomy when dealing with adolescents and adults is very important. I have experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults. My background consists of working with individuals with mental illnesses and substance abuse. My style is based in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) with an emphasis on understanding patterns, monitoring progress, mutual development of goals for therapy and provision of ongoing evaluation of the therapeutic approach. I have counseled the following individuals: substance abuse individuals, victims of rape, intellectuals with developmental disabilities, children, adolescents and adults with mental illnesses, trauma, and behavioral problems. I have conducted individual/group therapy, developed intervention strategies, initiated treatment plans, and completed intake/admissions.
