Hi there, I’m Catherine! My name is Catherine Spears and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) based in Visalia, California, and work with clients statewide via telehealth. I work with adult individuals and couples and have extensive experience working with substance abuse, traumatic stress, depression, and anxiety using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Based therapy, and Emotionally Focused therapy to help my clients make progress and start feeling better. My approach My approach to therapy varies depending on the needs of each individual client, depending on their work as individuals or as a couple. I take a compassionate and safe person-centered approach mainly using cognitive behavioral therapy and attachment-based therapy. These modalities help me and the client build a shared understanding of their reality, and allow us to chart a path forward. My focus I have found that my style and clinical experience are a good fit for adults who may be dealing with the challenges of childhood trauma. This trauma oftentimes takes the form of addiction, traumatic stress, depression, anxiety, anger/aggression, impulsivity, low self-esteem, ineffective communication skills, poor boundaries, and family/social relational conflicts. I work to help my clients gain awareness of how their childhood issues have affected and continue to affect their relationship with others and with themselves, resolve their issues related to childhood gaining greater self-esteem, security, and confidence. My communication style My communication style is from a place of calmness and compassion. I want my clients to feel safe being able to share their experiences, thoughts, and feelings without the fear of judgment. It’s important to me that my clients feel heard and understood. My journey to mental healthcare As most therapists, I have always wanted to help others. My journey of helping others began with community work starting in junior high school and has been continuous.
