About
I am a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner in Nebraska and have been in private practice for 6 years. I have an insatiable appetite for learning and am a lover of words, stories, ideas, and possibilities. Entering the field of counseling was birthed out of my years of experience as a medical provider and as a leader of a community of faith.
Let me tell you a bit my therapeutic approach. My approach is eclectic, drawing from several modalities. Here or some of the major components.
Relational: Establishing a sense of relational safety and trust is a priority for our therapeutic work together. I believe that the dynamic of therapist/client relationship enables us to collaborate as we work together in the areas of concern. “When you ponder yourself in relationship and allow others to bring their experience back to you, you begin to change.” ( Dan Allender, Ph.D.)
Trauma recovery: Knowing that one’s past experiences play a significant role in the ability to live life more fully and freely in the present, I work to help clients identify and understand the connections and discover ways to reduce disruptive symptoms in their daily lives and relationships.
Interpersonal Neurobiology: Understanding and tending to the emotional parts of our brain can be very helpful in managing overwhelming emotions and trauma related symptoms. Where appropriate, I integrate mindfulness, internal family systems, and body awareness in my practice. My aim is to assist my clients in growing a sense of self-awareness and understanding of how her/his/their mind works. Through this process I help clients find pathways of growth and gain skills and understanding for improving quality of life and relationships.
Attachment: Patterns of relating that are established in early childhood and significant childhood trauma (such as abuse, death of a loved one, or a family breakup) can powerfully impact one’s current relationships. Our therapeutic relationship provides a safe environment to explore these patterns and strengthen important relationships.
