About
As a counselor, I subscribe to the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach to counseling. CBT focuses on the idea that problems come from irrational beliefs or thoughts that are acted upon. I use CBT to work together with my clients to identify goals that will address the challenges clients are currently experiencing that are delaying their journey to their desired life. Acknowledging there is not a one size fits all style to counseling and therefore I work with clients to accomplish their goals in unique and various ways that are best for each client. Ultimately, I approach counseling sessions as a collaborative effort that aims to empower clients to achieve the life that they desire. I currently have my Master’s in Science of Education specializing in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Illinois University and am trained to provide individual, family, and couples counseling for individuals of all ages. I have extensive training in providing therapy for individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, individuals experiencing a crisis, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals struggling with addiction, and individuals struggling with identity concerns. Furthermore, I have continued to be educated on multicultural competencies by being immersed in the impoverished communities of Thailand and Guatemala to assist in various educational and mental health-related ways. Furthermore, in my undergraduate research at Northern Illinois University, I have had the opportunity to work with participants recovering from sexual assault, childhood trauma, and anxiety, where I was properly trained on how to administer a variety of assessments related to said experiences. “If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change.” – Mahatma Gandhi I work with: Children, Adolescents, Adults, Families, Couples, and the LGBTQIA+ Community.
