I believe that the counseling process is collaborative between the client and the counselor. I will work to provide a non-judgemental and safe space for my clients so that they feel they can explore their thoughts and actions, and discover things about themselves they may not know. Once the client has gained insight over their thoughts and behaviors, I use a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy to work with the client in working through and changing their negative thought patterns and behaviors. I also use a trauma-focused approach while working with clients who present with a trauma history. This allows the client and I to work through their trauma history together and work towards overcoming the symptoms they may be experiencing today from the trauma. There is not a single approach to therapy that works best for clients, and this is why I take an integrative approach to therapy to work with my clients in finding the technique that works the best for them. I am a Limited Licensed Counselor in the state of Michigan. I obtained my Bachelor of Arts from Albion College with a major in psychology, and I obtained my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University. I have also obtained my trauma certification and am qualified to integrate trauma therapy in counseling sessions. I gained clinical experience working with clients during my practicum and internship classes.
