About

Bridget McLaughlin, Licensed Mental Health Counselor. Empowering clients to take the initiative to identify needs and strengths, and using those strengths as tools to resolve conflict and regulate their emotions. My approach In therapy, I use a combination of many different theoretical approaches, however, my main approaches are person-centered, cognitive behavioral, and motivational interviewing. I want my clients to feel empowered and in control of their sessions by maximizing their ability to find their own solutions with my support and providing them with tools that they could use to overcome adversity. My focus On an everyday basis, I work with adolescents in the school setting struggling with anxiety, bullying, self-esteem, and self-harm/suicidal issues. However, I have experience working with adults in both residential and community settings. I am open to all clients and do not have an issue with referring out if I do not feel comfortable. My communication style All my sessions are a safe place for clients to be their true, authentic selves. I am open and honest, and a true active listener. My goal is to ensure that clients feel comfortable sharing information that they will never share. I'm straightforward but will never disrespect my clients, and I do expect that in return. I don't want it to feel like a counseling session but more like a friendly conversation. My journey to therapy My passion and need to help others is the main reason for my attraction to this field. I'm intrigued by the mind and how it could be easily manipulated by biology and your day-to-day life experiences. What continues to drive me in this profession is seeing and hearing the day-to-day successes of my clients whether big or small because no matter the size, it's a win for my client and for me. My goals for you I start by asking the client what their overall goal is for therapy, and what that looks like for them.
