About
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Florida. I graduated from college with a Master of Science degree in 2012 from Capella University. I have received my Ph.D. in Creative Systemic Studies in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. I am also a Certified Integrative Medicine Mental Health Provider.
Prior to obtaining my master’s degree, I worked as a Guardian ad Litem. I have also worked as a residential counselor in a program for adjudicated male youths. I have spent years working for agencies dealing with troubled families and youth including a residential dual-diagnosed treatment facility and a psychiatric hospital. Currently, I am in private practice where I see children, adolescents, couples, and families. I counsel LGBTQ couples and individuals as well.
I use a combination of interventions but primarily Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy techniques. Solution Focused and Narrative approaches may also be in the mix. I utilize what seems appropriate for each individual situation. In addition, I believe positive mental health is a result of optimal health inclusive of mind, body, and spirit. I am an advocate for the benefits of meditation and yoga. Also, proper nutrition is another aspect of total wellbeing I find as being an integral part.
I have been successful in partnering with clients to help them achieve their treatment goals and objectives by meeting them where they are and seeing the situation from their perspective. Together we identify reasons for seeking a therapist and ways to overcome perceived obstacles by using authentic communication, positive coping skills, and controlling negative thoughts. I am an empathetic therapist and have many life experiences from which to draw during a session.
