Hi and welcome! My name is Brandy. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-R), licensed in New York State since 2012. I have experience working as a therapist with a variety of ages and populations in multiple settings: Residential Treatment Facility, College Counseling Center, Outpatient Mental Health and an Inpatient Psychiatric Unit.
We all go through difficult times in our lives and I’m so glad to see you’re reaching out for support. Please know seeking help is a strength, not a weakness!
A little about my education and professional background…
I completed my education in stages. I started out attending college as a young mother and earned an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education. While working full-time for many years, I attended college part-time, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development. In 2009 I decided to go back to college (again) for a master’s degree in social work (MSW) – and my journey as a therapist began.
I have several certifications in NYS: (1) Certified New York State Rape Crisis Counselor (2) Certified Counselor in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) (3) Certified Counselor in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT) (4) Certified Girls Circle Facilitator (empowerment support group).
A little about my therapy style…
My approach to therapy is client-centered, focusing on your strengths. I believe building a trusting, therapeutic relationship is at the core of successful therapy. It’s very important to trust me as your therapist and know I will support you, empower you and not judge you. My style is warm, relaxed and solution focused. I have a lighthearted sense of humor and will use it in therapy. A favorite quote summarizes my style: “When we listen with the intent to understand others, rather than with the intent to reply, true communication and relationship building begins” (-Stephen Covey).
