About
Welcome! My name is Beryl D Southall. I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Texas. I graduated from college with a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from Southwestern Assemblies of God University. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, stress, grief, burn-out, esteem and self-worth. I also helped many people who have experienced childhood abuse and those seeking emotional and spiritual maturity.
Prior to obtaining my master’s degree, I earned a Faith-based counseling degree. I have counseled and trained others to provide faith-based counseling. I have worked with young adults, middle age and the geriatric population. I am now in a private practice where I see individuals across the age spectrum.
My counseling style is accepting and supportive. I counsel from a place of peace so that you can feel safe to share your story. My approach combines Cognitive-Behavioral and Emotion Focused Therapy techniques.
As we move forward I will be asking you what will feel like A LOT of questions at first. At times it may seem impersonal and tedious. Please bear with me through this brief intake process. It won’t take long and the information you provide will be used to help you moving forward.
To start, I need to ask for some contact information, just to have on file in case of an emergency. I don’t have access to anything you shared when you registered, and I have an ethical and legal responsibility to know how to reach you in case of emergency. I want to assure you that everything is completely confidential, except in the situations explained in the informed consent you have agreed to above. Your emergency contact person will only be contacted in the event that I am concerned for your well-being and am unable to reach you by any other means.

Now let’s take a break from information gathering and talk about the online platform in general:
Through this online platform you have access to messaging 24/7. Please note, that while you can message me whenever you want, I typically respond to messages within 24 hours during “normal” waking hours. If you have a matter that is urgent, please mark your message as such so that I can address the matter with you as soon as possible.
You also have the option to schedule a live session via phone call, video, or chat. To schedule a live session, go to the Schedule section. Your 45 minute live session is scheduled on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 10am to 5pm and Thursday and Friday from 3pm to 5pm. Please note: I do not schedule sessions on Saturday or Sunday. If you do not see a day/time that works for you, please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate you. Sessions are 30-minutes long unless there is trauma. Typically, clients will schedule a live session once a week or bi-weekly depending on their needs. However, live chat, messaging and live phone sessions are also available. The choice is yours!
Prior to scheduling your first session, please review my no-show/cancellation policy below (also outlined in the informed consent).
No-Show/Cancellation Policy
24-hour notice is required for live session cancellations. If/when you need to cancel, please provide a brief explanation. After 3 no-shows/late cancellations, I reserve the right to delay live sessions and move to strictly messaging until an agreement can be reached between us regarding live sessions.
I understand that life happens, emergencies happen. Please let me know what is happening so that I can support you as best as I can. Please understand this policy is not punitive, but meant to encourage respect of my time as well as your own time. If I need to cancel or reschedule for any reason I will be as transparent as I can with you about why. I also try to reschedule/cancel within 24 hours of anything coming up. If I do cancel last minute, it will be accompanied by the opportunity to reschedule that same week. If you have any questions/concerns regarding this policy please allow me to address these with you.
Should you ever feel in need of urgent help, at risk of harming yourself or someone else, or that you are in crisis at any time during our work together, please call 1-800-273-TALK 24-hours a day or call 911. This forum does not provide any type of emergency services, so I want to be sure you know where to reach out if you ever need immediate help.
Please know that you are not alone. I’m looking forward to working with you. Once I’ve received your contact information we will continue our brief intake process. Should you have any questions along the way, please don’t hesitate to ask.
Beryl
