About

I believe the counseling experience is a very personal, shared interaction between two people; the most crucial aspect of this relationship is trust. To help you build this trust, I want to share with you my professional beliefs, background, and most importantly, what you can expect.

I have a Master of Arts in Counseling from UNC Charlotte, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board Certified Tele-Mental Health Professional in North Carolina. My area of special experience is working with individuals who have been abused or have experienced other traumatic events. I also have over 15 years of experience working with a variety of concerns from depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationships, spirituality, substance abuse and self-esteem.

I believe counseling is a joint effort, which cannot be successful without your hard work, energy and courage. There are many reasons people seek counseling; regardless of the reasons, I believe an enhanced sense of self understanding and acceptance is essential in all situations (this includes understanding how past experiences have shaped the way we view ourselves, as well as how we understand relating to others). Therapy provides a safe place to explore reactions, thoughts, and feelings about people in your life as well as yourself. It allows you the opportunity to explore and practice new ways of interacting. Counseling is also a place to learn new coping strategies, recognize personal strengths and nurture resiliency.

I believe that each individual has all the answers they need within themselves. My job is to help sort through all the feelings, thoughts, experiences and reactions to be able to clearly find those answers. Learning to manage our stress and process our feelings allows us to be more present in our daily lives and within our relationships.

Ultimately, counseling is about letting go of all the stories of "who you should be", who you were told you are and finding within who you really are. Learning to live from that place of authenticity offers a freedom and peace that is invaluable.

What you can expect from me is authenticity, compassion, acceptance and respect. I draw from many different styles of counseling; from Person Centered, mindfulness/meditation, Reality Therapy and Intra-Personal Psychology. My special area of interest is bringing spiritual psychology to traditional therapy. Allowing life’s experiences to be seen from a wider perspective of learning and growth toward wholeness. My interactions with you will be tailored to your specific needs and goals. I strive to offer concrete practices and tools that you can use to help with navigating through life.
