About
"Austin earned his Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Utah and has practiced providing individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy. Austin has successfully helped many people experiencing low or inconsistent motivation, poor self-esteem and negative thinking patterns, difficulty setting boundaries and expressing emotions with others, unwanted habits or addictions, anxiety and worry, depression, suicidal thoughts or self harm, trauma and PTSD, ADHD, pornography and other sexual addictions or compulsions, betrayal trauma, family conflict, and communication and other problems in significant relationships. Austin values effective and research-supported therapeutic techniques, and because in his experience there is no one solution for every problem, his goal is to match his client's specific needs to the most appropriate treatment. Depending on the client's goals, these methods include, among others, values and needs exploration, emotional awareness and processing, effectively setting boundaries, cognitive behavioral approaches (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Attachment Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing. For those needing to process significant negative events or past trauma, Austin utilizes the well-researched EMDR method. For struggling couples, Austin utilizes both Gottman and Emotion Focused Therapy to help them jointly address long standing relationship issues and make progress in resolving them in the near and long-term. For families, Austin works from a framework of Family Systems Therapy and Narrative Therapy, among others. Austin was born in Idaho, grew up in Puerto Rico, Oregon, California and Washington state, but now considers Utah home. He enjoys spending time with his three boys, friends and family, learning new things, playing and listening to music, cooking and eating delicious food, and of course, being a therapist."
