About

My name is Ashley Hix and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2015 and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Alabama A&M University in 2017. Between graduating and obtaining my licensure, I have spent time in a plethora of rich
psychiatric facilities learning and gaining experience from a wide variety of individuals with specific and unique needs and challenges.

Mental health affects all of us, in some way, shape, or form whether it be our families, ourselves, or a friend. Witnessing these painful realities firsthand sparked a passion in me to help those who are struggling. Since my time in high school, I have worked in
internships at the VA. Under the supervision of Gerald Wilhoite, LPC-S, I served as a counselor in a substance abuse program, counseled severely mentally ill (SMI) adults, and assessed emergent psychiatric patients for possible psychiatric hospital placement.

While there is value in looking to the past to gain insight into our present, staying there is rarely beneficial; our past informs our present, but does not dictate our future.  I believe in looking for solutions to effectively cope with each client's specific life challenges, whatever that may look like; this is why I typically use solution-focused and reality-based therapeutic interventions.
