The Harvard Youth Poll reported 51% of young people, ages 18-29, report feeling depressed. Many struggle with anxiety, depression, trauma or relational issues at some point. The role of relationships is often over looked in the treatment and role of mental health distress. When our relationships suffer, so do we. After all, we literally regulate each others heartbeats! When we are isolated , when our relationships aren’t functioning we can be triggered into depression, anxiety, and other undesirable states of being. At the least relationships stress makes life hard. At the worst it has been linked to physical consequences and diseases. Addressing mental health by exploring attachment and childhood trauma can help us understand cyclical behavior and overall mood issues.
