About
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a PhD in Human Services with a specialization in counseling. My therapeutic style includes the concept that the counselor/client relationship is, in itself, a clinical helping strategy. My clinical style also includes narratives, vignettes, or brief stories designed to help illustrate or illuminate client circumstances in a non-threatening manner. This technique encourages clients to derive parallels to their own circumstances. I work with individuals and couples. Historically, most of my clientele have been adults/couples, followed by adolescents, and then older children. I currently work with adults only.
Most of my therapeutic services involve adult relationship issues. These include adjusting to major life events and various forms of loss including health, divorce, empty nest issues, and intimacy problems. People commonly experience symptoms consistent with depression and anxiety during these life events. Additionally, I work with attention deficit disorders, obsessive compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, work related stress problems, adjustment issues, and general faith or spiritual issues. However, I am not a Christian based or Faith based therapist.
Like most mental health clinicians, I have an eclectic approach to counseling in that I borrow from several theories of human behavior and development. However, I gravitate to the existential/transpersonal model in that I'm interested in what the person is experiencing today while considering the concept that people are spiritual beings embodied. I incorporate the cognitive behavioral model and, at times, utilize a more psychoanalytic model exploring the person's childhood experiences within a developmental context.
My personal counseling philosophy consists of three fundamental pillars:
1. Human beings are spiritual beings embodied (Existential/Transpersonal Theory).
2. My clientele and I are more alike than different. Things important to me, as a person tend to be important to all people in general. For this reason, a positive counselor/client relationship may function as a therapeutic strategy.
3. The people I serve have the answers they seek before treatment begins. The therapeutic process serves to illuminate paths/options so that answers become more clearly visible.
