About
Life is full of plot twists, unexpected challenges and painful defeats. These can wake us up, help us see life in a new way, and move forward with new acceptance, strength, understanding and hope. In my eleven years as a mental health therapist, what I'm most excited by is work in conjunction with clients as they untangle the knots in their lives and stories. Life truly doesn't have to be perfect, to be beautiful and richly rewarding. I completed my Master's in Social Work at Portland State University and have worked in Community Mental Health ever since, providing therapy to people who were coping with uncomfortable mood symptoms, loneliness, worries, difficulties in relationships and problematic substance use as well as challenging attention, focus and other executive function difficulties. I'm licensed to practice in Washington state. I work with clients to identify their top priorities in therapy and to get started in the area that promises the most relief, immediately. Most people want to feel better. The good news is there are so many strategies that can be used to begin to feel better, quickly! Feeling better tends to pave the way for the deeper work of learning, accepting and understanding. I approach behavioral health from a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy perspective, teach skills and tools drawn from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Narrative Therapy, and look forward to helping clients identify their own strengths and resources for building resilience and coping with change.
I'm a parent and a co-parent, with lived experience of the challenges and rewards of unconventional family structures and parenting circumstances, I was raised in a big city and spent the first half of my life enjoying all the diversity of culture and experience that cities provide, then moved to a rural farm town and feel grateful to be so regularly in nature, the sense of community present in small towns, and the slower pace of life.
