About

Hi, my name is Kit, and it is an honor to give you a glimpse of who I am as a counselor. After 30 plus year in the corporate world, I returned to school to finish up my life long dream of being a counselor. Having raised my own child, step children, and partners children, I felt it was time to pursue something for me. Because I have lost a husband, gained a husband, and then added a partner to my world, I have some unusual exposures in my life that have brought new insight into others, without judgment. My approach to life is to live it fully while being considerate of others and their beliefs. This has been a bonus for me as I finished my Masters in Counseling in Chicago, IL at National Louis University.
During my Master's program, I knew I wanted to do something different than just traditional sit in an office and talk therapy. I was exposed to Equine Assisted Therapy, which is a non-riding therapy, using a solution focused approach. It was a perfect fit for me, and with my continued education I became certified as an Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) provider. I took my years of corporate experience and applied it to opening up my own practice in NC, called Acres of Hope Equine Therapy Services. While doing equine assisted therapy, I also do traditional talk therapy working for a fellow counselor in another county. This keeps me fresh and exposed to many different types of people, both rural and big city cultures.
The type of people I work with are generally dealing with some form of trauma. I work predominantly with teens and young adults in traditional talk therapy and anyone over the age of 6 using equine assisted therapy. Working with first responders has been something I have been involved with since before I graduated. Another very important part of my life has been working with hospice for over 10 years doing palliative and bereavement counseling. Facing end of life issues can be very hard for some and very easy for others, but being a companion on that journey is extremely rewarding.
Regardless of my journey, I would be honored to be a companion in self exploration on yours. Congratulations for taking the first step.... now let the journey begin.
