About

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Supervisor in the state of North Carolina and a Board Certified-TeleMental Health Provider. I have been counseling for 16 years since my internship began in 2005. I am an active member of the American Counseling Association. I hold a Master of Science degree in Counselor Development and Education with an emphasis in Community Counseling and a Specialist in Education degree with an emphasis in Child and Youth Settings both of which were received in 2006 from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults, and families on various issues. Some of these issues include but are not limited to trauma, mood disorders (depression & bipolar), anxiety disorders, family violence, grief and loss, foster care and adoption issues, stress management, self-esteem, and behavioral problems.

I believe that therapy has to be tailored to your personality and needs. Rogerian person-centered skills are the foundation of my work, and I often integrate Carl Jung's psychodynamic approach, Irvin Yalom's existential model, and John Bowlby's attachment theory into my work as appropriate. I also incorporate Emotion Freedom Technique developed by Gary Craig. While often not the focus, I will incorporate cognitive-behavioral techniques to meet your needs.

It is my belief that at the center, the very core of our beings, we have everything we need to be well. Each one of us is designed to be healthy, happy, and at peace. Along the way, “life” happens, and we become “less well” than we were created to be. Rather than looking at being “less well” as a disease or disorder, I think of it as being at a crossroads on our journey in life that leads us to make choices---choices that significantly impact our overall well-being. My hope is to meet you at your crossroads and assist you in centering yourself to look within for guidance to best navigate your journey.

A little about me without my counselor hat: I am an HSP (highly sensitive person). I love traveling and experiencing new places and cultures. I am a Reiki Master/Teacher. I am an INFJ on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test. My sun sign is Scorpio. I am an adoptee who has been on my own healing journey through self-care and counseling. I love animals, writing, nature, reading, and Netflix (yes, I have been known to binge-watch a time or two).
