About
Welcome! I am Amy Powers and hold a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). My approach to therapy is rooted in compassion, unconditional positive regard and authenticity. I have been practicing therapy for ten years, and my background includes a combination of private practice and non-profit sector treatment. My approach Most of the therapeutic work I do comes from a trauma-focused lens, as I am an EMDR trained therapist and utilize different approaches to address underlying trauma. Additionally, I am seasoned in other traditional talk therapy, such as, CBT, Strengths-Based, and Psychoanalytic. My focus Most of my experience has been with high risk youth and individuals that have experienced trauma. I have worked with a wide range of men, women, and teens. My area of expertise has been with adults. I have experience working with individuals that have served in the Military. Additionally, I work with individuals that have substance abuse/addiction issues. My communication style The environment I create is warm and inviting. I am compassionate and soft in my tone, yet am direct and will gently challenge my clients when appropriate. My style is honest and real, with a soft container. My journey to mental healthcare Human behavior has interested me since I began my undergraduate work, and I was even more drawn to the scientific element of human behavior. It was in graduate school where I began to comprehend on a deeper level, the healing that I would benefit from to be an effective therapist. Consequently, I learned that my healing and deep work led me to support others in their journey. I truly believe that I am only capable of taking clients as far as I am willing to go, and I am willing to go far in my personal journey. My goals for you Goal setting is client led, however, I will authentically share my opinions on what may be best for the client. My first session with you This is about the client, the first session we will review intake and possible
